Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

The point is that all sides have people with loopy ideas and use fundamentalist values to protect their carrion. ------------ . Indeed. So why can't we criticize these ideas without having to qualify ourselves every step of the way about how wonderful these creeds actually are? As for the full hist...

Oh yes. I'm onto Moffat, I know exactly what he's got in mind. May the castrations begin. . .

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

------------ There is quite a difference between saying that religion got me off drugs and saying God told me to kill a bunch of kids. Of course. The main difference is the choice made by that individual. I've never denied that religion can bring out the best in some people. I've maintained however...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

And the complete lack of belief reduces the potential of evil? Certainly not. The potential exists whatever you believe. Technically speaking, if you're an atheist, you simply don't have any right to use the word "evil". I have every right. You are begging the question sir. You are taking...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

I'm not convinced that religious thought would have prevented Unit 731. No ideology has a monopoly on evil (I'd almost argue they all lead to the same place, but that's a complicated argument for another time) - evil people will find a way to do evil, whatever their beliefs suggest. Personally, I th...

Re: Whatcha listening to?

Baker's book (ghost written by his daughter) is quite a lark. His recollections of Bruce are so universally bad, one can't help wondering what the other side of the story was. . .

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Well, I did say in its strongest form. . . Which is true. That's the very nature of faith. By definition, faith is belief without reason. If one ceases to believe, then one's faith couldn't have been that strong. What is it that drives young-earth creationists if not stubborn belief? It's the refusa...

Re: Whatcha reading?

I was an LOTR fanboy, until the Jackson films came out. Not only did they not "do it" for me, but seemed to forever alter how the books would appear in the public imagination. Into something I could no longer identify with. . .

Re: THE DOCTOR...is in

I don't hate the fellow, but I really don't like the direction they seem to be taking him in - not just darker or colder, but at times, almost a sociopath. They seem to have alleviated this somewhat in the last two episodes, but we shall see. . .

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

In the old days, one could only make as many copies as tapes one was willing to buy. It was a time-consuming process - one actually had to play the album all the way through (even with high-speed dubbing you had to sit through the whole thing). And someone had to actually own the record. So to serio...
