Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

I don't know what the big deal is about this "depth of field" thing. You just click on your menu and press the little button and it focuses all by itself. Easy as pie!

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

I notice some "bias" in your writing, Ez. ~wink~ You could say all my posts are biased. Move along folks nothing to see here. I was pointed towards this video today. A Rabbi critiques Christianity. His analysis of the New Testament is brilliant. Most interesting. http://www.youtube....

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Maybe you're right. I was referring only to this line of conversation. You're asking questions that many Christians struggle with. I think a theologian would give better, more meaningful answers than I can. I understand. I didn't take your comment as a general exhortation to buzz off. I strug...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

You guys are swarming me. But oh how I love the swarm! There is quite a difference between saying that religion got me off drugs and saying God told me to kill a bunch of kids. If Ezra cannot see that I don't know what to say. I see the difference Frank because by my frame of reference there is no s...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Barber wrote There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking the questions if you listen to the answers and do not criticize the person giving them to you. Believers are often correctly accused of arrogantly asserting the primacy of their beliefs. I would assert the same is true of the atheists who, ra...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

All I can do is repeat what I said to Lori over in the other thread in response to her question. Lori there is a deep seated, fundamental, internalized taboo in our culture against criticizing religion. Because this taboo has existed for so long it has had time to surround itself with oodles of defe...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Ezra, It's not dead insofar as it is continually reinvented. It clearly serves a function, albeit one you or I may not be affected by. I'm not even one of those who categorically condemns it. I think reaching for the god metaphor, if you will, has fueled human creativity for millennia. I'm not sayi...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

As far as I can tell I'm the only one that asked you a question Ben. Everyone else is responding to your comments. Hardly a swarm. Rick Keeney asked me "What compelling reason does anyone have to think that god exists?" Anyone? Ever? Nah, I am just interested to hear from any believers her...

I've got to keep a close eye on the four-wheelers.

You mean the ones whose drivers are cruising along listening to audiobooks? :D

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Whoa there Ben! Before you get too deep into all that philosophizing and theologizing, there's one thing you forgot. You haven't established yet that a god even exists. Hell can wait a bit I think.

You believe in god, why again?

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

I am extraordinarily glad Harlan is home. :D Ditto! Me three! If we do speak out all we can really do is keep asking others the same questions we've asked ourselves. If other folks find those questions offensive, well that's rather telling don't you think? As I have said before, it's not the questi...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Ben if you think de Sade or Unit 731 are examples of "reason" then yes we have a different understanding of the term. I'm always fascinated by "functionalist" defenses of religious belief. Your "argument" is an example of a logical fallacy called "appeal to consequ...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

First of all, while this question was once directed a specific person it is now a general question for anyone who chooses to answer. Apparently, everything I post on the Science vs Religion thread offends another poster no matter how I approach things. Here's the question. Is it my fault for maybe ...
