Look at this blurb from the New York Times:

" The new White House press secretary, Jay Carney, said Thursday that he would not say whether the United States would invoke its rarely used veto power in the Council."

Underline 'RARELY USED' and laugh yourself silly. Does the Times lie because they are in love with lying? The US, in fact, has used the veto more than any other country in history! Rarely used? What the frick.

Not quite, though we've been on quite the run since 1986...

I'd be fascinated to find the statistics for each of the different Presidencies...

Obviously I misspoke. I meant we lead now.

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security-co ... -veto.html

If you take out the USSR we lead. Which makes sense since democracies should be separated from totalitarian states, but I get Barber's tut-tuttery.

It sure is a hell of a disgrace in any light.

I'm getting really tired of Maher always dissing Muslims. Sure, there are many problems with religion there but that's because we supported dictators and we even gave them fundamentalist Islam. We prevented them from being democratic, this is why they are in the streets now.

Odd. I've checked a variety of resources and have to believe SOMEbody is tracking vetos by year or Presidency, but damned if I can find it.

Anybody? My guess, of course, is that the massive majority of US vetos relate to Israel, but the stats are elusive.

Congratulations to -

Obama for increasing the science budget.

The Grammys for rewarding Esperanza Spalding rather than Justin Bieber.

RT is a cable channel from Russia. It has an American version, much like Al Jazeera english. Like AJ they have on people you would never see on CNN, MSNBC, obviously Fox, NPR, PBS, even C-Span. Look at some of this:

A real live socialist debates a rightie:

Scary, socialist, scaryyyy.

Well that's incoherent even for you Frank.

I support an increased science budget and I am an elitist. Does that make me a bad person?

I agree with that Ezra. You must have misread me.

i'm talking about the people who hate science, which tends to be the general public.

Helen Thomas finally does her first new interview. I don't know what to think of what she said...woo:

I say she was a bit insensitive, but she is old and let it slide. I obviously agree with some of her views, but she should have been a bit more classy about it.
