Funny, in my first year at University, I listened to an awful lot of Zappa. Then I stopped. Very suddenly, for no reason at all, just stopped. Didn't touch him again for ten years. Then one summer, just as suddenly, I started listening again. It wasn't that long ago, but I honestly can't remember what rekindled my interest. I had Youtube I guess, and I just felt like hearing Zappa. I remember it was warm, and I was winding down a brutally boring online course. On the very last day, I hit the "enter" button for the last time, sent off my last assignment, and jumped into the car to join the family at the cottage. Zappa on the stereo the entire way.

For me, Zappa means summer now. And cottage country. Even though he never ever sang about such things. Every artist has a season, or a setting.
