So you've seen a bunch of books now. Wooo-hooo. What could be more exciting? How about a bunch of computer crap?

Yay! Computer crap! This is the office in my apartment where Rick works on Webderland. Here you can see the Pentium (on the left) where Webderland lives before it is transferred up to the Snider/TCE server. To the right of that is a little bubblejet printer and the massive HP ScanJet 3c flatbed scanner responsible for this and other graphics.

Below the scanner is a filing cabinet filled mainly with information from the Ellisons and various items mailed to Rick by visitors to the site (he says thanks for the gum, by the way). To the right of the filing cabinet is the "Li'l 486" backup computer, used secondarily for working while the primary computer is occupied with some other task, and primarily for playing Doom, Descent, Warcraft II, and other brain-melting networked videogames. (Ed. update: (deep breath) Magritte poster gone. Banker's light gone. Bulletin board and everything on it gone. Computer in Little Rock, hosting Webderland. Monitor gone. Desk gone. Chair gone. Piece of paper to the left of keyboard recycled into greeting card. Canon printer and HP scanner in storage. File cabinet gone. Second PC (to right) gone. Second monitor, keyboard, and trackball gone. Second desk gone. In fact, let's save everyone some time, the only thing left is the magazine on the extreme left and about three of the 20-odd diskettes on the far right.)

This snapshot is of the area just off to the right of where the previous picture left off. Here you can see one of the world's puniest multimedia speakers, a Logitech trackball with a tiny control ball that Rick has entitled "the carpal tunnel fun-ball", and the HP 1200c with Postscript that produces fabulous color printouts and (more frequently) desperate, begging letters to creditors. Most recently, Rick ran off over a hundred pages on that sucker and sent a full printout of the entire website to Harlan himself. He also included a full printout of the comments base from day one. I hope none of you said anything you're going to regret!

Below the printer, you can see a few of the things Rick is currently working on, including notes and a "to-do" list, the "Harlan Ellison Special" issue of RBCC, and a big ol' book on Unix. Ah, the life of a geek is so full! (Ed. update: The printer and the RBCC issue survive. All else has gone the way of all flesh.)
